Bogota-based actor Juan Pablo Raba was chosen for the team of the hit U.S. television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., now in its third season, which chronicles the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization’s fight to defend humanity.
Raba plays Joey Gutierrez, a Latino construction worker whose life is turned upside down when he suddenly discovers that he is able to melt metal.
“He’s an Inhuman (as they’re called in the series), but the most interesting thing is that he’s a Latino, and also the first gay character in the Marvel series… But he doesn’t fit into any stereotypes based on his sexual orientation or race,” Raba told the newspaper El Tiempo.
Raba, well-known in Colombia and Venezuela for his roles in soap operas and TV series, is one of Colombia’s most internationally renowned actors.
