It is 1953 and Kilian leaves the snow of the mountain of Huesca to start with his brother, Jacobo, the one-way journey to an unknown, distant and exotic land: the island of Fernando Poo.
In the bowels of this lush territory awaits him his father, a veteran of the Sampaka estate, the place where one of the best cocoa in the world is grown. In this eternally green, warm and voluptuous land, the young brothers discover the lightness of the social life of the colony; they share the hard work necessary to get the perfect cocoa from the Sampaka estate; learn the cultural differences and similarities between colonial and autochthonous; and know the meaning of friendship, passion, love and hatred.
But one of them will cross a forbidden and invisible line by falling head over heels in love with a native. Framed by complex historical circumstances, their love and the special bond between the settler and the natives of the island will transform the relationship of the brothers, change the destiny of their lives and be the origin of a secret whose consequences will reach the present.
In 2003, Clarence, the daughter and niece of this pair of brothers, driven by curiosity and the desire to know their origins, plunges into the ruinous past and discovers the dusty threads of that secret that will finally be unravelled.
