The Plaza Mayor of Tunja, founded on August 6, 1539, the date of the Hispanic foundation of the city, has been a protagonist in the city’s most significant events as well as the everyday occurrences of its inhabitants and visitors who have traversed this space for over four centuries. During the colonial era, it was characterized as the nucleus of one of the principal cities in the New Kingdom of Granada.
