The Cultural Center of the East, in the heart of Bucaramanga, is a treasure of republican architecture in which underground chambers, arches, columns, gardens and small squares stand out. In this building, built between 1899 and 1912, the schools of San Pedro Claver and Nuestra Señora del Pilar operated. The place, which is home to temporary exhibitions, was declared a National Monument in 1995.
