It is an artificial lake, created in 1956 under the government of General Rojas Pinilla, with the aim of promoting tourism in the municipality of Paipa. Around it, we find the most important hotel infrastructure in the Department of Boyacá. Some take advantage of the lake to offer water sports and recreational services. Its water surface covers an area of 1.5 square kilometers, containing approximately 4.5 million cubic meters of water. Its average depth is 3 meters. “Sochagota” in the indigenous language means “moon water drop,” forming a lacustrine landscape with a variety of fauna. It holds potential as a tourist attraction for hosting numerous activities for communities, tourists, and visitors.
