Yopal is a Colombian municipality, capital of the department of Casanare. Its territorial extension is 2,595 square kilometers, and it is located 317 kilometers from the capital district of Bogotá. Founded by settlers from Boyacá in 1915, it is one of the youngest departmental capitals in Colombia and one of the cities that registers the fastest population growth at the national level, especially after the separation of Casanare from the department of Boyacá (former national territories) following the 1991 constitution and thanks to oil exploitation.5
