Despite the success and fame that Diomedes Díaz achieved thanks to being one of the main
exponents of the vallenato genre in Colombia, he was also known for committing the
murder of one of his fans at the peak of his musical career. The singer-songwriter had a life
that synthesizes the culture based on the richness of the oral tradition of the department
of La Guajira, as well as the use of fame to fall into excesses that resulted in illegality and
crime. He was, at the same time, a popular hero and a condemned criminal.
With this, it is clear that Diaz's life, his contradictions and his way of being understood by
society, respond to the personality of a country and its history.
